Once upon a time, during the summer of eighth grade, my brother started reading Megaman sprite comics online. He eventually found the Order of the Stick, which then introduced me to OnlineComics. From there, I started reading a ton of comics during the summer of my eight grade year. (Aah the good old days~) Unfortunately, I no longer keep up with most of them now and some of them died. :'( (Nooo.... SotD </3)
Freshman year, I decided I wanted to make my own webcomic. My first story was The Phoenix Blade --a LoTR wannabe that was an epic 5 chapters long. After writing half of the entire script and drawing the prologue twice, I decided to scrap it in favor of Key.
I drew the first few pages, made a website and got it online on Feb 7th of 2007. I was in the middle of my sophomore year then.
Key started out as a little 5-volume adventure story. Feynius didn't exist. Jerlorn was the typical anti-social semi-cool dude. Ki was goody-goody two shoes that loved helping people for no reason whatsoever. Chris was stupid and a redhead ...and Valeni, well, hasn't changed too much. Varian was just evil for the sake of being evil. Nobody had any parents or past either.
In junior and senior year, I seriously thought over the story and script. Key grew, developed and turned into roughly a 14-or-so volume comic. Backstories were created, existing characters were solidified, and new ones created. The plot also expanded substantially, but not in a way such that unrelated events were stuck in there.
Right now, I'm in college (freshman all over again) and in the process of redoing the intro completely in order for it to flow with the rest of the story that was conceived later.
I started this endeavor knowing nothing whatsoever about writing or drawing comics. (Paneling is a word? What's character development?) So I guess, Key is in a sense an embodiment of my elevation as a writer and artist.
Of course, I also made Key in a webcomic format because I want to share it with everyone. Thank you for reading this little project of mine. =) I hope you enjoy it!
